The 18-year-old Iman Vellani is all set to play Kamala Khan aka Ms Marvel, the first ever Muslim superhero by Marvel for their upcoming Disney Plus series of the same same title.
Introduced in 2014, Kamala Khan aka Ms Marvel is a 16-year-old Pakistani American hailing from New Jersey with shapeshifting powers and the first Muslim superhero by Marvel to have her own comic book.
This makes Iman Vellani the perfect choice for the role as she herself is the daughter of Pakistani immigrants living in Toronto and her casting goes in line with the studio’s plan to stay true to the character and find someone who fits the ethic background.
Ms Marvel is also going to be co-directed by Pakistani Oscar-winning director Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy alonside Bilall Fallah, Adil El Arbi and Meera Menon.
Apart from the Disney Plus series, Ms Marvel is also said to be featured in future MCU projects according to the President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige.
While this is going to the first on-screen appearance by Iman Vellani as she portrays Kamala Khan aka Ms Marvel, the emerging star has worked with Next Wave Committee to help diversify the industry.
Iman Ali took to Instagram where she showed her excitement about the project saying, “Speechless and excited! Wish me luck. #msmarvel.”
