There is a lot of controversy on social media regarding the new Gala biscuit TV commercial which has been termed as ‘mujra’ by Pakistani journalist Ansar Abbasi and even criticized by Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan.
Social media has been flooded with criticism regarding the advert and Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) took notice issuing an advisory regarding the types of advertisements that should be served on TV.

The Gala biscuit TV commercial (TVC) was released on October 4th and since then has been brought to the attention of general public for promoting dance culture in Pakistan which goes against cultural norms of the country.
Pakistani actress Mehwish Hayat, who starred in the Gala biscuit TV commercial also shared it on her Twitter account stating that it was an absolute pleasure to be part of the project.
However, things took a weird turn as Pakistani journalist Ansar Abbasi took the criticism to a whole new level terming the dance sequence in the Gala biscuit TV commercial (TVC) a ‘mujra’ while tagging Prime Minister Imran Khan and PEMRA to take notice of such ads.
This was followed by Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs sharing the tweet and further criticizing it for going against the cultural norms and promoting indecent content in an Islamic state.
It is pertinent to mention that a similar advert was aired back in 2013 with a different actress but nobody had a problem and even Ansar Abbasi and Ali Muhammad Khan did not point out the so called dance culture.
Coming back to the current Gala biscuit TV commercial, senior journalist Ansar Abbasi and Ali Muhammad Khan have both been slammed by Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Hussain who took to Twitter saying, “Why do you and Ali keep searching for vulgarity 24 hours a day? Do something productive,”
The topic is currently trending on social media with two sides, one supporting Ansar Abbasi and his criticism of terming Gala biscuit TV commercial as ‘mujra’ and the other side criticizing the journalist for having a problem with everything.
It isn’t just Ansari Abbasi but the majority of people in Pakistan who have started criticizing everything that is not in line with their personal believes and the recent criticism of the Indian web series ‘Churails’ proves that very point.
Story behind criticism regarding web series ‘Churails’
Churails is a web series that was produced solely for Indian production company Zee5 and it never aired in Pakistan on any medium but people have been taking to social media criticizing the use of sexual dialogues in the series and tagging PEMRA for taking notice.
People in Pakistan have now started following trends without even doing some research as they expect PEMRA to censor or ban an Indian web series and there are even those who have linked the series to ARY or HUM TV without having any knowledge whatsoever.
