Ali Zafar offers to pay Meesha Shafi’s travel expenses

Ali Zafar and Meesha Shafi have an ongoing controversy which faces another dumbfounding twist. The critically acclaimed singer and actor, Ali Zafar, has offered to pay all travel expenses from Canada to Pakistan of former fellow singer Meesha Shafi, after she failed to appear in Lahore court, regardless of multiple postponed hearings.

Backstory

Ali Zafar and Meesha Shafi’s controversy ignited about two years back, when Meesha publicly affronted the aforementioned singer, by ostensibly accusing him of sexual harassment at multiple occasions. “This happened to me despite the fact I am an empowered, accomplished woman who is known for speaking her mind. This happened to me as a mother of two.” – Read Meesha’s tweet.

Other than that, the model turned singer alongside her friends also initiated a #Meetoo movement against Ali Zafar, posting derogatory material related to the Teefa in trouble actor. Many feminists joined the slander campaign. And therefore, Meesha earned massive sympathies from the audience.

These false claims consequently bought unplanned public’s hatred towards Ali Zafar, that swaddled his then establishing silver-screen career. As a result, the Laila O Laila singer also retaliated to the false allegations thrown his way, by legally filing a defamation suit against Meesha Shafi. Since then, the two leading singers of Pakistan have been engaged in a legal combat.

It is pertinent to mention that Meesha Shafi had appeared before the law enforcing agency at numerous times previously, however the Waar actress failed to provide any evidence in support of her indictments. Hence, previous month Meesha together with 8 other got booked over by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) over defaming the legendary singer Ali Zafar.

Ali Zafar offers to endure Meesha’s travel expenses

Meesha Shafi, along with her witnesses is currently resided in Canada and is therefore absent for the court hearings.

During the latest hearing at session’s court Lahore, in presence of additional district and sessional judge Muhammad Yasir Hayyat, Meesha’s counsel Saqib Jillani revealed to the court that his client was far away for physical appearance. Nevertheless, he suggested that Meesha could join the session for cross examination through video conferencing application Zoom.

Ali Zafar’s lawyer Umer Tariq Gill was quick to object as he pointed out that the evidence of defendant cannot be recorded through Skype or Zoom without complying with the pre-requisite, as laid-down by the apex courts. Furthermore, Ali Zafar through his counsel also suggested that he was willing to pay all expenses of Meesha Shafi’s travel from Canada to appear in the court, hoping that she would be actually present for the session.

Hence, the court adjourned the session to November 14^th, ordering the defendant’s counsel to present Meesha Shafi in the company of her witnesses in next hearing.
