Apple has announced its long-rumored over-the-ear headphones called the AirPods Max, which are available for preorder at a hefty $549 price tag with shipping starting December 15th according to the Cupertino-based tech giant.
The wireless headphones cost three times more than normal Apple AirPods at $159 and almost twice as much as the the AirPods Pro which are available for $249.
Apple says that the AirPods Max are powered by the company’s H1 chip that offers 10 audio cores to enhance the listening experience while bringing many features like active noise cancellation, transparency mode, spatial audio and adaptive EQ.
It is pertinent to mention that this isn’t the first time the company has made over-the-ear headphones as Apple acquired Beats back in 2014. The company has released several new headphones under brand, including Beats Solo Pro featuring the same H1 chip with noise cancellation but costing $249 less at a price tag of $300.
The new Apple noise cancelling headphones feature 40mm dynamic driver which is designed in-house to cover a range of pitches, from deep bass to high-frequency sounds according to the company.
Furthermore, the AirPods Max feature great battery life with up to 20 hours of high-fidelity audio, talk time, or movie playback with Active Noise Cancellation and spatial audio enabled through its ultra-low power state.
The headphones come in several color options, including silver, space gray, sky blue, pink and green which is something refreshing considering the normal AirPods and their Pro variant were limited with the available color options.
Moreover, the Apple AirPods Max offer a foldable design, making it convenient to carry in its ‘Smart Case’ which is included with the new headphones.
The noise cancelling headphones are constructed from stainless steel which might be the reason behind the hefty $549 price tag. The ear cushions offer a seal for the user while the knit mesh flexible top band offers an amazing fit for the user by helping distribute the weight and reduce on-head pressure.
In addition to the noise control button, the AirPods Max feature a digital crown similar to the Apple Watch which lets users adjust the volume, skip tracks, etc.
Let us know what you think of this new addition to the AirPods family and is the expensive price tag really worth it since there are many other headphones on the market offering similar specs, including the Sony WH-199XM4 and the Bose 700 which are both priced lower than the new Apple headphones.
