Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sent a condolence letter to former premier Nawaz Sharif on the demise of his mother, Begum Shamim Akhtar, who passed away late last month in London at the age of 89.
“I am deeply saddened to learn about the demise of your mother Begum Shamim Akhtar,” said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his letter to Nawaz Sharif.
“I recall my interaction with her during my brief visit to Lahore in 2015.” the letter continued. “Her simplicity and warmth was indeed very touching.”
“In this moment of profound grief, I pray to the Almighty to bestow strength upon you and your family to bear this irreparable loss,” the Indian premier continued in his letter to PML-N’s Nawaz Sharif.

It is pertinent to mention that the three-time premier was sentenced to jail over corruption. However, he was granted permission from the Lahore High Court (LHC) to receive medical treatment in London for a period of four weeks.
Nawaz Sharif departed for London in November 2019 and since then has sought extension in his stay abroad on grounds of this medical treatment.
