United Motors have finally launched their 1000cc United Alpha which will be taking on the Suzuki Wagon R, Cultus, Alto and even the KIA Picanto.
This is a brief comparison between the United Alpha and the Suzuki Wagon R to determine how the newcomer stacks up against one of its rivals.
It is pertinent to mention that the Alpha is basically a rebadged Chery QQ making a comeback to the local automotive industry after it failed the first time back in 2006 under Karakoram Motors.
However, this isn’t the latest model of the Chery QQ and 2012 face-list variant of the original car that was initially introduced in Pakistan almost a decade ago.
In this article, we will compare some of the features and aspects of the United Alpha and the Suzuki Wagon R so that our readers can get a better idea about the two vehicles and make an educated decision regarding their purchase.

United Alpha vs Suzuki Wagon R
We will be comparing the Alpha hatchback with Wagon R VXL variant.
Engine and Transmission
The United Alpha is equipped with a 4-cyliner 993cc engine, producing 68hp and 93Nm of torque while coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission system.
On the other hand, the Suzuki Wagon R is powered by a 3-cylinder 998cc engine, generating 67hp and 90Nm of torque while paired with a 5-speed manual transmission system.
Furthermore, the Wagon R has an emission standard of EURO II whereas the Alpha has an emission standard of EURO IV.
Moreover, United Motors revealed its plan introduced an automatic variant of the Alpha during the first half of 2021 which will put the vehicle ahead of its competition.
Dimensions
Lets discuss the dimensions of both vehicles to get a better of idea of their size. The United Alpha stands at 1485mm in height, 3550mm in length and 1495mm in width while the Suzuki Wagon R is slightly taller with a height of 1,670mm, slightly longer at 3,600mm in length but less wide at 1,475mm in width.
The Alpha has a lower ground clearance at 152mm compared to the Wagon R with a minimum ground clearance of 170mm.
Furthermore, the Alpha has a minimum turning radius of 5m compared to the Wagon R at 4.6m. This indicates the space you need to turn the vehicle. A higher number indicates you need more space compared to a smaller number.
Wheels
The United Alpha and Suzuki Wagon R both offer 13-inches Alloy wheels with a full size spare steel wheel in the trunk.
Fog Lamps
The Alpha comes with Fog Lamps as standard while the Wagon R offers these as an optional feature and charges more to the customer.
Airbags and Safety
Both hatchbacks lack essential safely safety features like airbags and anti-lock breaking system (ABS), making both these cars unsafe compared to international standards. However, the Alpha comes with a anti-collision side bars which is a point in favor of the newcomer.
Power Windows
United Alpha is offering all four power windows while the Suzuki Wagon R only has this feature in the front, giving the new entrant an edge over its competition.
Power Steering
While both vehicles offer this functionality, it is pertinent to mention that the Wagon R comes with an electronic power steering while the Alpha has a hydraulic based system.
Multimedia Screen and Rear Camera
The United Alpha offers a 10-inch multimedia screen with a rear view camera, both of which are lacking in the Suzuki Wagon R which comes with a more conventional audio system.
Rear Wipers
The Alpha has a rear wiper which is lacking in the Wagon R, giving the newcomer another advantage in this comparison.
Digital Cluster
The United Alpha is equipped with a complete digital instrument cluster compared to a more traditional one in the Suzuki Wagon R.
Price
The United Alpha has a price of Rs. 1,395,000 while the Wagon R VXL costs Rs. 1,730,000, making it Rs. 335,000 more expensive than the new entrant to the segment.
Not only is the Alpha cheaper but offer way more features than the Wagon R. However, it should be noted that being a major player in the Pakistani automotive sector, Suzuki has a much better resale compared to the United Motors.
