Doctor imprisons & tortures sister to deny inheritance in Lahore

In a case of domestic violence against women, a doctor imprisoned and tortured his own sister in Lahore for four years in an attempt to deny her share of the inheritance after selling their parents home in the provincial capital, according to police on Thursday.

The accused has been identified as Faraz Munir, a resident of Valencia Town in Lahore while his victim has been identified as Shabnam Farooq.

According to the details, the police raided the house in Valencia Town and recovered Shabnam Farooq, who was confined to a room at the property for the last four years by her brother, a doctor by profession, in order to avoid having to pay her share of the inheritance.

Shabnam claimed that her brother had prepared fake documents in which she was demeed to be mentally ill. The victim also revealed that she was often sent to psychiatric hospitals by her brother.

“Once I was discharged my brother and his wife would torture me and even gave me medicine which ruined my mental health,” Shabnam Farooq told police officials.

The victim said that she moved out of her home over a decade ago and used to work at a local bank and call center in Multan when her brother came and forced her to come live with him in Lahore.

She added that he did “all this just because he sold our father’s house for Rs. 1.4 million and didn’t give me a single penny.”

Shabnam Farooq said that she had managed to telephone her neighbor who informed the police about the situation after which prompt action was taken by the law enforcement to help the woman.
