Imran Khan launches coronavirus vaccination drive in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has formally launched the coronavirus vaccination drive in Pakistan today (Tuesday) and urged people to continue exercising precautionary measures.

Speaking at the occasion, the premier thanked the Chinese government for providing the first 0.5 million doses of the Sinopharm coronavirus vaccine to Pakistan.

PM Khan said that healthcare workers will be the first to the COVID-19 vaccine, after which people of old age will get inoculated since they are at higher risk of the deadly infection.

The first coronavirus vaccine was administered to a healthcare worker under the supervision of the prime minister, his advisor on health Dr Faisal Sultan, and the National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) chief Asad Umar.

PM Khan stressed on the importance of healthcare workers getting the vaccine shot as “they were at the most risk” of contracting the deadly infection.

Furthermore, the prime minister stated that the coronavirus vaccine will be distributed among provinces on an equal basis and a just manner.

“The more you abide by coronavirus safety measures, the easier it will be to protect everyone from the virus,” said PM Imran Khan while addressing the everyone present at the launch of the coronavirus vaccination drive in Pakistan.

“I also wish to stress to the nation the importance of coronavirus SOPs and especially wearing a mask.” the prime minister said while addressing everyone present at the occasion.

Prime Minister Imran Khan said that schools have been reopened and hospitals will be reopened soon since COVID-19 cases are dropping every day.

He added that owing to the high death rate, other countries had to go for a complete lockdown again whereas Pakistan’s “economy is running and it is the service sector that has been curtailed.”

“If you exercise caution, then all remaining sectors will be reopened,” PM Imran Khan added.
