Traffic jams reported in Lahore due to TLP protest

Massive traffic jams have been reported in Lahore due to Tehreek-e-Labbaik (TLP) protests taking place across the country after their chief Saad Hussain Rizvi was taken into custody on Monday.

There are traffic jams being reported in several areas of Lahore as roads were blocked by TLP protestors blocking roads after their chief Saad Hussain Rizvi was taken into custody by police ahead of the 20 April 2021 deadline by the religious party as they warned the government they would return to the streets if the French ambassador was not sent back home.

Protestors blocked several roads causing massive traffic jams in Lahore, including:

• Faletti Chowk towards Faisal Chowk
• High Court Chowk towards Regal Chowk
• Avari Chowk towards Governor House Chowk (now opened)
• Corporation Chowk Outfall Road
• Yateem Khana Chowk (where police reported used tear gas to disperse protestors)
• Khayaban Chowk
• Muhafiz Town towards Thokkar Chowk EME Road
• Darogawala Chowk towards Quaid-e-Azam Interchange (both sides)
• Chungi Amarsadhu towards Kasur (both sides)
• Shahdara Chowk from all four sides; Shadbagh; Joray Pul Zarar Shaheed Road; Barki Road
• Bhatta Chowk
• Bedian Road
• Walton Road
• Canal Road
• Harbanspura Interchange
• Shalimar Chowk towards Ghas Mandi
• Quaid-e-Azam Interchange to Niazi Shaheed Interchange on Ring Road
• Bagriyan Chowk
• Sundar Road

It is pertinent to mention there is traffic congestion at Ring Road entry points across Lahore as people are being diverted to alternate routes as they try and get home.

The National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) also reported that National Highway N-5 (Lahore to Gujrat Section) at Muridkay City and Kamonki City were blocked due to massive traffic jams as a result of TLP protest in Lahore.
