Oscars 2021: Anthony Hopkins bags the 'Best Lead Actor' award

The critically renowned past master of show business, Sir Anthony Hopkins has repeated the history at the Oscars 2021, as he grabs his second prestigious and high-status ‘Best Actor Award,’ in a tight race with top-pick Chadwick Boseman. Bestowed for his remarkable performance of a dementia patient in ‘The Father,’ Hopkins is now the oldest actor to have achieved the Academy Award till present.

British actor, director, producer and composer Sir Anthony Hopkins possesses a six-decade film and television career, and is one of the oldest living showbiz legends. Owing to his stellar performances and adoption of challenging characters in both young and old age, the actor has garnered tons of awards and accolades, including a BAFTA Fellowship for lifetime achievement from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts and various Golden Globes.

Although Anthony Hopkins have an extending record of notable films like The Elephant Man, 84 Charing Cross Road, Howards End, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Legends of the Fall Meet Joe Black, The Mask of Zorro, Thor, Thor: The Dark World and Transformers: The Last Knight etc., the actor is perhaps best known for playing the brilliant but twisted murderer Hannibal Lecter in the 1991 thriller “The Silence of the Lambs.” The megahit film had lead Hopkins to his first Academy Awards glory and he had clutched the Best Actor Oscar then.

And, after 30 long years, on Sunday, 25^th April 2021, Sir Anthony Hopkins has once again accomplished a milestone as he snatched the Best Lead Actor title at the Oscars 2021, surpassing some prominent names. The veteran actor had been awarded over his heart-wrenching performance of a dementia stricken patient in 2020’s chart-buster ‘The Father.’

Moreover, with this classical, out of the blues success at the Oscars 2021, Sir Anthony Hopkins is now the oldest performer to get an Academy Award. The title was previously held by late actor Christopher Plummer.

In the film ‘The Father’ that led Hopkins to second Oscar, the actor plays the role of an aging man who has refused any help from his family and is beginning to doubt what is real and what is imagined. Talking about his character, the actor had previously commented, “the role made me very aware now how precious life is.”

Furthermore, Anthony Hopkins failed to attend the grand event in person. Hence, taking it to the video message, the actor expressed the gratitude over the honor, saying “At 83 years of age, I did not expect to get this award, I really didn’t. I’m very grateful to the Academy.”

In addition to this, Hopkins had won over the late actor Chadwick Boseman, who was highly presumed front runner for a posthumous, first Oscar in his final role in jazz drama “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.” Therefore, appreciating the late legend, Anthony in his short message stated,

“I want to pay tribute to Chadwick Boseman, who was taken from us far too early,” he continued. “I really did not expect this, so I feel very privileged and honored.”
