Prime Minister Imran Khan has launched the Kisan Card Scheme. which will provide subsidy and relief to farmers in Pakistan and help uplift the country as well as end corruption in the agriculture sector.
The Kisan Card Scheme will help “”transform and change Pakistan because farmers are actually the backbone of Pakistan”, said the premier while addressing the distribution ceremony of Kisan Cards on a one-day visit to Multan.
He said that the adoption of technology in the agriculture sector would help eliminate corruption as it will lead to reduced paperwork and interaction where officials could take a bribe from another person.
The Kisan Card would be used to provide support to farmers across Pakistan and help them with money in moments of “calamity” and crisis. “Subsidies will also be available for seeds and pesticides,” said the premier, adding that loans will also be provided through the cards.
Prime Minister said that farmers earned an extra Rs. 1,100 billion due to increase in prices for their produce during the tenure of the incumbent PTI government. This additional earning would help improve the lives of farmers and their families while reducing poverty in rural areas of the country.
He said that the government was taking other measures to improve the agriculture sector and this included a Rs. 300 billion transformation package, adding that two dams were being constructed to address the water shortages along with several small scale projects and Rs. 220 billion from the transformation package was set aside for the fortification and lining of canals.
Furthermore, the prime minister said that farmers were still using old methods and they would be informed about new agriculture techniques to increase their productivity.
He said that there was a lot of produce that was imported but after reforms to the agriculture sector, most of it would be grown in Pakistan as the country has favorable climate and temperature provided necessary conditions to increase crop yield.
Prime Minister Imran Khan also praised the Chief Minister of Punjab Usman Buzdar for this work on the Kisan Card Scheme that will help “transform and change” Pakistan through help of farmers.
