Netflix has finally dropped the first look for its highly anticipated mystery-thriller 1899, created by the masterminds of globally acclaimed German TV series Dark. Comprised of eight episodes, the forthcoming series has a huge enigmatic cast on board, and will revolve around the spine-chilling journey of an immigrant ship and its unfortunate travellers.
Netflix’s first German original series Dark turned out to be a critical success for its creators Jantje Friese and Baran Bo Odar. The three seasons comprised show, owing to its mind-bending, time-weaving timeline became one of the most watched Netflix series of the year 2020. And, owing to Dark, the German show-runners has been clutching audience’s confidence ever since.
Moreover, although Netflix houses a whole separate universe of time-travelling thrillers and adventures, nothing like Dark ever came out to satisfy the viewers’ cravings. However, the wait is finally over, as the fan-favorite originators, Friese and Bo Odar, are once again returning to the Netflix platform and with a totally different page-turner this time.

In 2018, Friese and Odar inked an overall deal with Netflix that sees them exclusively create projects for the streamer across an initial five-year period. And, to live up to that, the duo is coming back to Netflix with their next venture 1899.
Furthermore, as the series is in filming phase currently, the production has not yet given out any official premise for the show. However, Netflix 1899 will follow a series of mysterious circumstances around the voyage of an immigrant ship from Europe to New York. The passengers, all hailing from different backgrounds, cultures and nationalities, are united in their hopes and dreams for a new century and a new future abroad. But, when they discover a second vessel adrift on the open sea that had gone missing for months, their journey takes an unexpected turn and their voyage to the Promised Land transforms into the worst nightmare.
Talking about his next project, Baran Bo Odar stated, “Knowing that we did Dark, everyone can be assured that [1899] is going to be something weird and wild and crazy. It’s going to be a fun puzzle for the audience. We are going back to our mystery roots.”
Likewise, doing justice to the plot details, the streaming giant dropped an exquisite poster for the Netflix’s 1899, giving out the cast details.
And, from the first look and series storyline, what’s gathered is that Netflix’s forthcoming 1899, has a vast squad ‘on board.’
