Attack on Masjid Al Aqsa, scores of Palestinians injured

Israeli police’s brutal attack on worshippers of Masjid Al Aqsa yesterday has left dozens of Palestinians injured and hospitalized. The Israeli forces had stormed the Muslim’s place of worship, loaded with grenades and bullets, as a consequence of weeks-long clash over Palestinians eviction from land claimed by Jewish settlers. Hence, the Palestinian families had gathered to protest after the night time prayers, when the incident came about.

Israeli-Palestinians tensions has mounted in East Jerusalem and the occupied West Bank, after the Friday night’s attack on masjid al Aqsa by the Israeli invaders.

Earlier on the day, thousands of Palestinian Muslims had assembled at what is known to be Islam’s third holiest site, to offer the night-time prayers called Taraweeh of the last Ramadan of Friday. However, after the holy rites, a huge population of Palestinians had stayed on to protest in support of the families facing eviction in East Jerusalem’s Sheikh Jarra, neighborhood illegally claimed by the Isreali immigrants.  

Moreover, it was not the first protest that came from Palestinians over the dispute. As per reports, during the past week, residents of Sheikh Jarrah, as well as Palestinian and international solidarity activists, have attended nightly vigils to support the Palestinian families under threat of forced displacement.

Likewise, following the final Ramadan prayers, thousands protested afterwards, waving the green flags of Hamas and chanting pro-Hamas slogans before dispersing peacefully. And, it was the time when Israeli forces launched an attack on Masjid al Aqsa, hurting the protestors ruthlessly.

Attack on Masjid al Aqsa

After invading the Muslim’s worship place and Palestinians sit up, the Israeli police had closed all gates leading to Al Aqsa inside the walled Old City. Later, the forces attempted to disperse the protestors using skunk water, tear gas, rubber-coated bullets and shock grenades, thus injuring dozens of Palestinians. In defense, the young protestors had pelted Israeli soldiers with stones and glass bottles.   

Reportedly, at least 205 Palestinians and six officers were injured in the night-time attack on Masjid al Aqsa and around East Jerusalem, Palestinian medics and Israeli police said, as thousands of Palestinians faced off with several hundred Israeli police in riot gear.

Moreover, as said by the Palestinian Red Crescent emergency service, 88 people were hospitalized while most of the wounded suffered injuries to the face and eyes from rubber-coated bullets and shrapnel from stun grenades.
