Software Engineer Andrea Meza of Mexico has been crowned Miss Universe 2020 winner, outshining the Miss Brazil and Miss Peru. The 69th edition of the pageant was held at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
Taking it to her Instagram, the 26 year old beauty posted the video of final moments before the big announcement, with a caption, “MÉXICO ESTO ES PARA TI,” that translates to “Mexico this is for you.”
Andrea Meza, the Miss Universe Winner 2020 was crowned by the 2019’s victor Zozibini Tunzi, as Meza radiated and took her first walk to the front of the stage.
Tunzi, who became the first Black woman from South Africa to win the contest, had held the title since December 2019. However, at present, the newest conqueror of this glimmering crown is Miss Mexico, Andrea Meza.

The Miss Universe 2020 Winner Andrea Meza is a software engineer and a Mexican model. Andrea had previously been crowned Mexicana Universal 2020 and Miss Mexico 2017, and placed as the first runner-up at Miss World 2017.
“I am so honored to have been selected among the 73 other amazing women I stood with tonight,” Meza said in a news release from Miss Universe Organization.
“It is a dream come true to wear the Miss Universe crown, and I hope to serve the world through my advocacy for equality in the year to come and beyond.”
Moreover, in her final statement during the pageant, Andrea Meza spoke about beauty standards.
“We live in a society that more and more is more than advanced, and as we advance as a society, we’ve also advanced with stereotypes,” she said.
“Nowadays beauty isn’t only the way we look. For me, beauty radiates not only in our spirit, but in our hearts and the way that we conduct ourselves. Never permit someone to tell you that you’re not valuable.”
Comprised of 73 contestants from all over the globe, the 69th Miss Universe competition was hosted by “Access Hollywood” host Mario Lopez the 2012 Miss Universe Olivia Culpo. It airs in more than 160 territories and countries across the planet, including in the U.S on the FYI channel and on Telemundo.
Here to mention, last year’s Miss Universe was cancelled due to the novel pandemic. Hence, ahead of the pageant, Paula M. Shugart, president of the Miss Universe Organization, revealed that the organization had spent months planning a safe competition that followed similar guidelines as last November’s 2020 Miss USA competition held in Memphis.
