Riot Games announces Valorant for mobile

Riot Games has announced that their flagship first person shooter (FPS) Valorant is coming to new platforms, including mobile devices.

The announcement comes as Riot Games celebrates the one-year anniversary of Valorant, which currently remains a Windows PC exclusive title, therefore excluding console, Mac and mobile users.

Unfortunately, beyond confirming its release on mobile, Riot Games has not announced any more details, including the release date for the game.

Valorant Executive Producer, Anna Donlon, told Polygon that the idea is for the game to not just be a port of Valorant PC but to provide a unique mobile experience.

The team at Riot Games started with a checklist of questions regarding whether it was possible to provide an appropriate gaming experience on mobile. If any of the items of the checklist couldn’t be done, then the company would drop the project.

“We didn’t start out with ‘We’re making Valorant on mobile,’ we started out with ‘Can we make Valorant on mobile?’ with a lot of skepticism,” Donlon said. “For us, whatever you get out of playing on PC, you should get out of playing Valorant on mobile. But we have to recognize that the mobile player need is different.”

Donlon added that the PC version of the game will not be affected by the mobile version, which will remain independent to provide the best experience to players on both platforms.

She did confirm that Riot Games has no plans for cross-play between both platforms at the time. However, there is no telling whether the company will introduce this feature in future updates.
