Facebook has confirmed that the social media giant will continue to ban all Taliban related content on its platforms, which include Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, as it considers the group to be a terrorist organization.
The company says that it has dedicated a team of content moderators to monitor and remove content, including posts, images and videos, related to Taliban.
“The Taliban is sanctioned as a terrorist organization under U.S. law and we have banned them from our services under our Dangerous Organization policies.”
Facebook told CNBC.
The company clarified that it will remove all accounts maintained by or on behalf of the Taliban, as well as those that post content in support of the group on any of its platforms.
We also have a dedicated team of Afghanistan experts, who are native Dari and Pashto speakers and have knowledge of local context, helping to identify and alert us to emerging issues on the platform
Facebook spokesperson.
The new policy applies to all platforms under the social media giant, which means that Taliban related content on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp has been banned by the company and it will be removed once it comes across the moderation team.
It bears mentioning that Facebook does not have access to private chats on WhatsApp as they are end-to-end encrypted but WhatsApp spokesperson has said if they become aware of any such content being shared on the platform, they take action.
Facebook spokesperson also said that WhatsApp uses AI software to evaluate non-encrypted group information including names, profile photos and group descriptions to meet legal obligations.
