KARACHI WEATHER UPDATE: Cyclone Shaheen is likely to move west-northwestward till tomorrow evening and then recurve southwestward towards Masqat and Oman coast. The cyclonic storm has already moved towards west-northwestward during the last 6 hours with a speed of 15km/h and intensified into a Severe Cyclonic Storm, which is now centered at a distance of about 400KM southwest of Karachi, 240KM from Ormara, and 250KM southeast of Gwadar. The estimated maximum sustained surface wind is 90-110km/h and sea condition over the Arabian Sea is rough around the system centre.
There are chances of widespread rain-wind-thunderstorms with scattered heavy rain in Gwadar, Lasbela, Awaran, Kech, Khuzdar and Panjgur districts of Balochistan till 3 October 2021 (Sunday Night). Meanwhile, there is chance of scattered rain and thunderstorm expected in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Dadu and Jamshoro, Tharparker, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Tando Muhammad Khan (TMK), Tando Allayar (TAY), Shaheed Benazirabad, Nosheroferoz, Sukker, Larkana, Jacobabad, Shikarpur districts till tomorrow as a result of Cyclone Shaheen.
The weather condition in Karachi has remained rough with heavy rain but changes of rainfall in Sindh, including Karachi are gradually decreasing from tonight. However, the concerned authorities in Sindh and Balochistan are requested to remain vigilant during the forecast period.
During the Cyclone Shaheen, the sea conditions would remain rough/very rough with high surge at times till October 3 (Sunday). The weather alert has advised fishermen to not venture out in the sea till 3rd October 2021. Meanwhile. the heavy rains may generate urban flooding in Lasbela, Ormara, Pasni, Gwadar, Turbat and Jiwani. The windstorms may also cause damage to vulnerable structures.
