K-Electric Seeks Increase in Power Tariff

K-Electric has submitted an application to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) seeking an increase in the power tariff by Rs. 3.45 per unit. K-Electric has sought the increase in the electricity price just days after the government announced a hike in the power tariff by Rs. 1.39 per unit.

According to NEPRA, E-Electric has requested an increase in the power tariff on account of the monthly fuel cost adjustment (FCA) for September, adding that it had spent an additional Rs. 6.639 billion on fuels in September, which would be recovered from customers, while some of the cost would be picked by the government of Pakistan in line with the subsidy policy for consumers who are using up to 300 units each month.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has will conduct a public hearing on 3 November 2021 to decide on the matter and if the request by K-Electric is approved, the power consumers will have to bear an additional burden of Rs. 6.639 billion.

Increase in Power Tariff

The government has announced an increase in electricity prices from 1 November 2021 by Rs. 1.39 per unit in light of the increasing circular debt of the country. However, this increase does not apply to consumers using less then 300 units each month and customers of K-Electric.
