James Michael Tyler, who was known for his role as Gunther in the hit comedy sitcom Friends, has passed away on Sunday at the age of 59. He is survived by his wife Jennifer Carno.
The US actor was diagnosed with advance prostate cancer in 2018 which later spread to his bones. James Michael Tyler had kept his diagnoses private for three years before revealing about his cancer earlier this year. The news surprised fans as he had just made an appearance on the Friends Reunion and made no mention of it.
James Michael Tyler acted in several other big shows over the course of his career, including Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Scrubs, Modern Music, and others but his shot to fame came with the long-running sitcom, Friends, where he played the role of a coffee shop worker at the Central Park Café.
“Warner Bros. Television mourns the loss of James Michael Tyler, a beloved actor and integral part of our FRIENDS family. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, colleagues and fans.” tweeted the official Twitter account for the Friends sitcom.
