PTV Takes Nauman Niaz & Shoaib Akhtar Off-Air

Pakistan Television Network (PTV) has decided that both Dr Nauman Niaz and Shoaib Akhtar will be taken off-air because of the recent spat between the two personalities on live television after the T20 World Cup match between Pakistan and New Zealand.

The local television channel set up an inquiry committee to look into the matter and until its final decision is provided after thorough review of the incident, PTV has decided to take both Dr Nauman Niaz and Shoaib Akhtar will be taken off-air. The announcement regarding this decision was made on Twitter.

PTV added neither Dr Nauman Niaz or Shoaib Akhtar can resign without following proper legal procedure since they are contracted talent/employees of PTV.

Shoaib Akhtar Responds to PTV

Pakistani cricket legend Shoaib Akhtar took to Twitter after PTV announced its decision. “Well that’s hilarious.” said the cricketer, adding that he resigned in front of 220 million people in Pakistan and billions across the world. “Is PTV crazy or what? Who are they to off air me?”

What Happened Between Nauman Niaz and Shoaib Akhtar?

Pakistani cricket legend Shoaib Akhtar resigned and walked out from the program ‘Game on Hai’ that was airing live on TV. The incident occurred as a result of some harsh exchange of words between Shoaib Akhtar and the program’s host Dr Nauman Niaz after Pakistan’s win in the match against New Zealand in the T20 World Cup.

Shoaib Akhtar was going through some details about Shaheen Shah Afridi during the post-match discussion with several other panelists present in the room, including former Pakistani cricket players, Azhar Mahmood, Aaqib Javed, Sana Mir, and Rashid Latif. However, the show’s host Dr Nauman Niaz took some offense to something Shoaib Malik said and snapped back at him.

“You’re being a little rude and I don’t want to say this, but if you’re being over smart, you can go. I am saying this on air,” Nauman Niaz told Shoaib Akhtar on air. It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the TV host to snap at Shoaib Akhtar, who also was caught off guard at the time.

Shoaib Akhtar tried to resolve the matter with Nauman Niaz but ended up walking away after giving him verbal resignation and apologizing to other guests, including Sir Viv Richards, and David Gower. Nauman Niaz was undeterred from the incident and continued as if nothing had happened. The matter came to the attention of Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry, who constituted a committee to look into the matter.
