Pakistan Railways has increased fares of both passenger and freight trains due to the increase in prices of petroleum products in the country.
According to the details, the Pakistan Railways has increased fares for passenger trains by 10 percent, while the fares for freight trains have been increased by 5 percent. It bears mentioning that the new fares for passenger trains take effect from today (1 November 2021), while the new fares for freight trains will come into effect from 5 November 2021.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Pakistan Railways, Nisar Ahmed Memon, said the organization always tries to increase the fares as little as possible, however, due to the increase in prices of petroleum, it was becoming increasingly difficult to continue with the old fares.
It is pertinent to mention that Pakistan Railways previously increased fares two years ago in July 2019 and the organization has been operating while absorbing most of the burden without passing it on to the passenger.
