Federal Ombudsperson for Protection against Harassment of Women at the Workplaces Kashmala Tariq on Thursday ordered the dismissal of former Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Director-General (DG), Haji Adam, for sexually harassing a female worker.
The Federal Ombudsperson also fined former DG PEMRA Haji Adam Rs. 2,000,000. Meanwhile, the co-accused General-Manager (GM) PEMRA Fakhruddin was demoted and issued a penalty of Rs. 500,000.
Furthermore, the Ombudsperson Kashmala Tariq has directed authorities at PEMRA to install CCTV camera everyone in the offices and form an anti-harassment committee to avoid such incidences in the future while addressing complaints.
The victim had originally filed a complaint against DG PEMRA Haji Adam on January 2020, following which the Ombudsperson issued an interim order for his suspension in February 2020. Haji Adam reached out the Islamabad High Court (IHC) regarding the matter but his plea was rejected by the court.
Federal Ombudsperson Kashmala Tariq has given a verdict on the matter and dismissed the DG PEMRA for sexually harassing the female worker.
