Fact Check: No Decision Made on Gas Timings in Punjab & KP

The Ministry of Energy has announced that no decision has been made regarding load shedding and supply of gas in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). The earlier reports regarding gas schedule in these provinces has been confirmed as fake news by the Ministry of Energy on Twitter.

The announcement was made on Twitter. “Misleading news is being spread on various channels that gas will be provided to domestic consumers only three times a day.” said the official Tweet, adding that no such decision has been taken by the Ministry of Energy.

“However, the ministry has instructed Sui Northern officials to ensure supply of gas to domestic consumers at meal times.” the Ministry of Energy added. It bears mentioning that earlier reports have gone viral on social media regarding the gas timings in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Earlier Reports

Earlier reports stated that the Ministry of Petroleum and the Sui Northern Gas Private Limited (SNGPL) announced gas timings for domestic consumers in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) during the winter season (December 2021 to February 2022). The gas load shedding and supply schedule will only provide gas to domestic consumers three times a day for a few hours.

According to the details, the Ministry of Petroleum had prepared a schedule for supply of gas to domestic consumers in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the winter season. The consumers in these provinces will experience 13 hours of load shedding as per the fake news regarding the gas timings.

Gas Timings (FAKE)

The provided gas schedule was said to begin in December and stay in place until February as per the earlier reports regarding gas timings in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP)

However, the Federal Minister of Energy Hammad Azhar did already stated that domestic consumers will be provided with gas only three times a day.

It bears mentioning that LPG Price in Pakistan has also skyrocketed alongside the Petrol Prices. The current price of LPG in the country stands at Rs. 216.90/KG.

Furthermore, the Petrol Prices in Pakistan expected to rise even more as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) asked the Government to increase the Petroleum Levy. However, the Price of Crude Oil in the international market is on the decline.
