Prime Minister Imran Khan has inaugurated the Karachi Green Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project that will connect 22 stations between Surjani Town in the northern part of the city and Numaish Chowrangi in Saddar, finally providing some form of relief to the citizens in terms of public transport availability.
The premier arrived in Karachi on Friday for a one-day visit and inaugurated the first phase of the Karachi Green Line Project at the main station located at Numaish Chowrangi. The project is the first mass transit service in Karachi which will help passengers traveling along the route.
Karachi Green Line BRT
The Karachi Green Line BRT Project comprises of 80 hybrid buses with a daily capacity to serve 135,000 passengers on a 22KM route with 22 stations (excluding main station). “The eco-friendly 80 hybrid busses will help decongestion of jam packed roads.” said the Government of Pakistan on Twitter.

Furthermore, the Karachi Green Line BRT service is equipped with several special features for the convenience of passengers, including:
- Cell Phone Charging Port
- Boarding Bridge For Special Persons
- Special Needs Sittings
- Separate Doors For Women, Families, and Men
- Dedicated Screens For Information and Publicity
- Escalators and Lifts
- Equipped with Fire and Safety Equipment
- Special Self Disinfectant System (For COVID-19)
- Vehicle Location System

Moreover, the control room has been set up with at least 900 cameras for monitoring of the Green Line Bus Project and the security of passengers.
Karachi Green Line Tickets (Fare)
The ticket prices for the Karachi Green Line BRT is Rs. 55.
According to the Federal Minister for Development and Planning Asad Umar, the Karachi Green Line BRT is one of the five big projects announced by the Federal Government for the city under the Karachi Transformation Plan. However, it is pertinent to mention that PML-N’s Government initially announced the project in 2014 and started work in February 2016, while it was expected to finish before the 2018 General Election but ended up being delayed.
