The International Cricket Council (ICC) have announced the schedule for the Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022, which is going to take place in New Zealand.
The tournament will kick off on 4 March 2022 at the Bay Oval in Tauranga, with hosts New Zealand playing West Indies, while the ultimate rivals, Pakistan and India, will face off against each other on 6 March 2022.
There will be a total of 31 games played in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 across 31 days, with eight teams clashing to get their hands on the trophy. The tournament is being hosted in six cities, including Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, Hamilton, Tauranga, and Wellington.
Australia, England, South Africa, and India qualified for the event on the basis of their position in the ICC Women’s Championship 2017-20, while New Zealand automatically qualified as they were hosting the tournament.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and West Indies qualified for the tournament on the basis of the ODI Team Rankings.
The tournament will be played in a league format with all eight teams facing off against each other once before the top four teams will qualify for the semi finals..
The first semi-final of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 will be played at the Basin Reserve in Wellington on 30 March 2022, while the second semi-final will be held at The Hagley Oval in Christchurch on 31 March 2022.
