President Dr Arif Alvi on Monday said that Malik Adnan, the hero of the Sialkot Incident, will conferred the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz (Medal of Courage) on 23rd March 2022.
Malik Adnan received nationwide praise for his bravery as he tried to shield and protect Priyantha Kumara, the Sri Lankan National who was killed by an angry mob in Sialkot over accusation of blasphemy.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has also saluted the courage and bravery of Malik Adnan. In a tweet, the Prime Minister wrote, “On behalf of the nation I want to salute moral courage & bravery of Malik Adnan who tried his utmost to shelter & save Priyantha Diyawadana from the vigilante mob in Sialkot including endangering his own life by physically trying to shield victim.” adding that he will be awarded with Tamgha-e-Shujaat.

On December 4, a Sri Lankan citizen was beaten to death in Sialkot over blasphemy allegations. The Sialkot incident took place on Wazirabad Road in the city, where the Sri Lankan, who was a manager at a private factory (RAJCO), was beaten to death by an angry mob.
The incident sparked outrage on social media across the globe over rights of minorities in Pakistan. However, Malik Adnan was the only person seen the video footage of the incident trying to protect Priyantha Kumara from the angry mob and received praise from people all over.
