The National Security Committee (NSC) on Monday approved Pakistan’s first ever National Security Policy, which is aimed at strengthening the security apparatus in order to tackle all internal and external challenges and ensure the protection of citizens in the country. The National Security Policy (NSP) was approved during the 36th meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC).
Prime Minister Imran Khan, who called it a “historic moment” for the country, chaired the 36th meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC), which was attended by Federal Ministers for Foreign Affairs, Defence, Information and Broadcasting, Interior, Finance, Human Rights, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, all Services Chiefs, National Security Advisor, and senior civil and military officers.
National Security Advisor (NSA) Mooed Yusuf said that Pakistan was shifting to a “Comprehensive National Security Framework.” with the ultimate purpose to ensure the safety, security, and dignity of the citizens of Pakistan. “To ensure this citizen-centric approach to security, the NSP put economic security at the core. A stronger economy would create additional resources that would, in turn, be judiciously distributed to further bolster military and human security,” said the NSA.
The NSA added that the National Security Policy (NSP) was created through a “whole-of-government effort over the last seven year”, and included consultations among federal government institutions, all the provinces, and with the academia and private sector as well.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Imran Khan called it a historic moment, adding that the National Security Policy (NSP) will guide all government institutions to ensure that their efforts are synchronized with over direction of the National Security Policy (NSP). He added that the security of the country rests in the security of its citizens and Pakistan was ready to meet all internal and external threats.
The Prime Minister also instructed the National Security Advisor to present an implementation progress report to the NSC every month.
