PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds – more popularly known as PUBG – has become free-to-play and it is available to gamers for free on PC and consoles. Krafton, the game’s publisher, had first announced the decision to move PUBG to a free-to-play model on 9 December 2021 at The Game Awards 2021 with a planned date for 12 January 2022.
PUBG PC is now available to download for free on Steam, while it is also also available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and Xbox One. However, the gamers who download PUBG PC for free will not have access to certain game features, including ranked mode, custom matches and certain in-game items.
Furthermore, the gamers who already own PUBG PC will receive a PUBG Special Commemorative Pack that automatically upgrades them to the Battlegrounds Plus Pass, while also granting them access to the Battle-Hardened Costume Skin Set, the Shackle, Shanks Legacy Pan, and the Battle-Hardened Legacy Nameplate.
Moreover, these gamers will also have access to 1,300 G-Coin, along with a 100 percent boost in Survival XP, access to the Medal Tab in Career Mode, and access to the Ranked and Custom match functionality as well. The Battlegrounds Plus Pass will provide access to items like the Captain’s Camo Set as well.
Gamers who download PUBG PC for free can still get all the added features for a price of $12.99 for the Battlegrounds Plus access, otherwise, they can still play the game for free without the added functions and access in-game items.
Krafton has also rolled out the PUBG PC 15.2 patch, which brings new Tactical Gear to scout remote locations with drones and EMT Gear. The update also improves the communication with Screen Ping Markers as well as in-game fluidity along with a new Action Queue feature that allows gamers to queue actions like reloading after firing a weapon.
