The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday dismissed a petition seeking the ban of popular online multiplayer game ‘PUBG’ in Pakistan. The petition was filed by a citizen, Tanveer Sarwar, in response to the violent incidents and murders involving youngsters who played the game.
The petitioner did not appear in the court at today’s hearing, therefore, the Lahore High Court (LHC) dismissed the petition over the petitioner loss of interest in the case. Tanveer Sarwar had requested a ban on PUBG in Pakistan citing increase in intolerant behaviour amongst youngsters who are addicted to the game.
He claimed that PUBG (Player’s Unknown’s Battleground) was a threat to the players and affected their physical and mental health as well as caused adverse effect on their families. He sought an immediate ban on PUBG in Pakistan in order to save the young generation from destruction.
Furthermore, the Federal Government, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), and other authorities concerned had also been made respondents in the petition.
