The Federal Government may increase the Petrol Prices in Pakistan by Rs. 13 per litre starting 16 February 2022. Meanwhile, the Price of Diesel is expected to decrease by Rs. 18 per litre. according to sources. The final decision will be taken by the Finance Ministry after consultation with Prime Minister Imran Khan.
If the increase in approved, the new Petrol Prices in Pakistan will come into effect from 16 February 2022 and these will remain applicable until the end of the month. This will take the Petrol Price in Pakistan over Rs. 150 per litre, an all time high in the history of the country amid the already surging inflation in the country.

It is pertinent to mention the Government had not increase the Petrol Prices in Pakistan on the directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan for the first half of February 2022. The current Petrol Price in Pakistan is Rs. 147.83 per litre, the Price of High-Speed Diesel is Rs. 144.62 per litre, while the Price of Kerosene Oil and Light Diesel Oil (LDO) is Rs. 116.48 per litre and Rs. 114.54 per litre, respectively.

It is pertinent to mention that Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin had also hinted towards a hike in Petrol Prices in Pakistan, adding that the government cannot lower prices of petroleum products artificially. He said that if the international market witnesses a price hike, the government will have to shift that burden onto the people.
