Islamabad authorities on Friday imposed a two-month ban on parking and outdoor cooking / bonfires in Margallah Hills National Park (MHNP). According to the notification, the Additional District Magistrate Islamabad has banned the parking on Damn-e-Koh Road and Peer Sohawa Road, while also prohibiting BBQs and campfire within the jurisdiction of Margallah Hills National Park.
“It has come to my knowledge through Ministry of Climate Change, Islamabad Wildlife Management Board that visitors to Margalla Hills National Park have been parking their cars on road sides of Damn-e-Koh and Pir Sohawa Road.” said the Additional District Magistrate Islamabad Rana Muhammad Waqas Anwar.
He added that visitors in these areas, including Damn-e-Koh Road, Pir Sohawa Road, and Margallah Hills National Park, do outdoor cooking / BBQs on road sides and trails which is one of the main causes of forest fires in the area. Therefore, the ban has been placed by Islamabad authorities.
