In his address to the nation on 8th April 2022, Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed his disappointment in the Supreme Court’s (SC) decision regarding the restoration of the National Assembly. He said that while he respected the decision made by the Supreme Court, he was saddened by the verdict.
He added that the Supreme Court should have at least initiated a probe into the “foreign conspiracy” that no longer wants him as the Prime Minister of Pakistan. “I respect the Supreme Court and the judiciary, but the apex court should have looked at the threat letter before issuing the verdict,” he said.
Prime Minister Imran Khan said that the apex court did not take the matter of the “threat letter” seriously as it should have been taken. Furthermore, he said that the decision on Article 63 (A), regarding horse-trading, also added to his disappointment.
“The youth of Pakistan are our future and if they see leaders selling their conscience, what kind of precedent are we setting for them?” asked the premier, adding that even MNAs who came on reserved seats have become sellouts. Prime Minister Imran Khan said that we must stand against wrong and raise our voices against the corruption and other evils prevalent in the country.
Speaking about the “threat letter”, the premier said that he could not share the letter with the public or media because of the cipher code. He explained that it is a coded message sent by embassies to their country and if it is revealed, all secret information of Pakistan will be unveiled to the world.
He said that during the meeting between Pakistani ambassador and the US official, the latter complained about his visit to Russia. Furthermore, he said that even before the filing of the no-trust motion against him, the US official knew about it and warned that if Imran Khan stays, Pakistan will suffer “severe consequences.”
However, the US official added that if Prime Minister Imran Khan was ousted, Pakistan will be spared and forgiven no matter who takes over the government. Prime Minister Imran Khan also said that PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif was involved in his foreign conspiracy.
He criticized for his “beggars are not choosers” statement, while adding that foreign powers want them in-charge because they can be controlled since their wealth is outside of the country. He gave the example of Russians having their properties and bank accounts seized abroad amid the conflict with Ukraine.
Prime Minister Imran Khan added that since all of his wealth and properties are in Pakistan, the foreign power knows that he cannot be control, hence, they want him gone and replaced with someone who will follow orders. “It is shameful for Pakistan, a country of 220 million people, that a foreign official is ordering the incumbent prime minister through a third person to leave the office otherwise face dire consequences.”
The premier added that the US official knew about the no confidence motion against him months before it was submitted and everything happening at the moment had been pre-planned and scripted. He asked his supporters to come out on the streets in protest on 10th April at 8PM.
