Apple Discontinues iPod After Two Decades

Apple has announced the discontinuation of its popular media player, the iPod, after 20 years since it was first released. The company has stopped production of the last iPod model, which will remain available in stores “while supplies last.” However, the company maintained that the “spirit of iPod” continues in other products, including the iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch.

Apple’s co-founder Steve Jobs debuted the original iPod back in October 2021 and it was the first MP3 player that could hold up to 1,000 songs and had a 10-hour battery life. “With iPod, Apple has invented a whole new category of digital music player that lets you put your entire music collection in your pocket and listen to it wherever you go,” he said at the time of its launch.

There have been several other music players released over the years from companies like Microsoft and Sony, but none of them have seen the same success as the iPod. Apple has released five versions of the iPod over the years – the Classic, Touch, Shuffle, Mini, and Nano.

However, the company has been slowly killing its iPod range in recent years, with mobile phone technology enabling customers to listen to music on their smartphones. The company discontinued the Classic variant back in 2014, while the Shuffle and Nano were killed off three years later.

The seventh-generation iPod Touch is the only model still on sale. However, the company has completely discontinued the production of the iPod Touch as well and it will be available in stores “while supplies last.” This brings an end to one of the most popular products introduced by Apple over two-decades ago.
