Netflix is reportedly looking into launching live shows on the platform, which will include unscripted series and stand-up specials. According to the details, the move will allow Netflix to compete with other linear networks that air live specials for big competition series such as ABC’s American Idol and Dancing with the Stars, which is moving to Disney+.
However, the company has not revealed any timeline for the launch of such a feature, but Netflix is in the preliminary stages of developing the product. The live feature will allow Netflix to air reality shows as such Selling Sunset, which just aired its reunion special for the fifth season.
Netflix is also working to introduce ads to the streaming platform alongside its crackdown on password sharing before the end of 2022. The development comes after the streaming giant reported massive loss in its subscribers alongside the password sharing problem that hinders the company’s profitability.
In response, Netflix has testing a new feature that will charge users if they want to share their passwords with anyone outside of their households. The streamer has already rolled out a pilot program for this feature in Costa Rica, Peru, Chile, where members on its standard and premium plans will be able to add two additional members (sub-accounts) to the account for a little extra cost.
