WhatsApp has been spotted testing a new feature that will allow users to silently exit groups without letting other members know about their exit. According to the details, the encrypted messenger is making it easy for users to leave unwanted groups without notifying every other members.
The feature was spotted by WABetaInfo, a service that tracks the instant messenger for new and upcoming features. According to the report, WhatsApp is only going to inform admins about a users’ exit from the group. This means that group members will not be able to see whether one of them has left that particular group.
Currently, WhatsApp shows an auto-generated notification in the group whenever someone exits the particular group and this is visible to all members of that group.
WhatsApp has announced the ability to silently leave a group at the time of detailing its Communities features a few days back. However, the messaging service has not revealed the exact time of release for the new feature. “We’re also adding the ability to silently leave a group, so everyone in a group is not notified in case people decide the conversation is no longer for them,” said WhatsApp on their FAQ page.
WABetaInfo has shared a screenshot of the new feature from WhatsApp for Desktop. However, the change will likely be available on WhatsApp for Android and iOS as well.
Furthermore, WhatsApp has also extended group size from 256 members to 512 members alongside increasing the file sharing limit from 100MB to 2GB.
