WhatsApp is now planning to end support for older iPhones running iOS 10 and iOS 11 starting later this year. According to the messaging app’s blog post, WhatsApp will only support iPhones running iOS 12 or newer and recommends users to update their smartphone to a newer version of iOS.
This means that iPhones that are still operating on iOS 11 or older versions will no longer receive updates for WhatsApp. However, the messaging app may continue to work for sometime after the support ends. According to WABetaInfo, a service that tracks the encrypted messenger for new and upcoming features, this will be implemented starting 24 October 2022.
If you are still using an iPhone with iOS 10 or iOS 11, you need to update to a newer version in order to keep using WhatsApp. However, iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C will stop running WhatsApp as iOS 12 not available for these devices, but they will continue to run the messaging app until the support ends.
According to WhatsApp. the company routinely drops supporting older operating system and point their resources to supporting the latest ones in order to keep up with the latest advances and in tech. However, the company notifies users running older operating systems to update their devices to continue using WhatsApp.
