The Motor Vehicle Authority Karachi has increased the number plate fee for motorcycles from Rs. 500 to Rs. 1,450. Furthermore, the department is not issuing number plates to motorcycles despite a massive increase three hundred percent in the fee.
According to the details, there has been a delay in issuing of number plates for motorcycles in Sindh since the last 15 years and millions of motorcycles are running on the streets without an official number plate despite payment of heavy charges to the excise and taxation department.
Those buying brand new motorcycles have to pay the excise and taxation department Rs. 6,160 at the time of registration, which includes Rs. 1,450 for the number plate fee, Rs. 750 for smart card, Rs. 2,160 for registration fee of the motorcycle, and Rs. 1,600 as motor vehicle tax.
It is pertinent to mention that demand for motorcycles is expected to increase as consumers look for ways to cut their petrol expenses as the government has announced a massive hike in the prices of petroleum products in the country, which have reached an all-time high of Rs. 209.86 for petrol, and Rs. 204.15 for high-speed diesel.
