A grade 19 officer, identified as Imran Raza Abbasi, has committed suicide by hanging himself in an apartment at Government Officers Residences (GOR-IV) in Faisal Town on Tuesday. According to the details, the officer was recently transferred from Islamabad to Lahore as Additional Commissioner Revenue.
The police officials had stated that Imran Raza Abbasi had been transferred two days back and arrived in Lahore on Monday night along with his driver Rustam, who told the police that Abbasi had given him money to bring breakfast but when he returned early morning and knocked on the door multiple times, no one opened it.
Rustam had alerted the police about the matter and policemen came to the residence and broke down the door finding that the grade 19 officer, Imran Raza Abbasi, had committed suicide by hanging himself in the apartment. The Police Crime Scene Unit, Punjab Forensic Science Agency and investigation teams collected evidence from the spot, said Model Town SP Waqar Kharal.
The family of the deceased was also informed by the police. However, the family members later contacted the police after a few hours and informed a magistrate in writing that they did not want a postmortem. The body of the grade 19 officer was handed over to the family for burial.
Imran Raza Abbasi is survived by his four children and widow.
“Forensic evidence collected from the scene has been sent to a lab,” said SP Kharal. The deceased had served as Bahawalpur and Faisalabad region anti-corruption director before being transferred to Islamabad, where he served as assistant commissioner revenue.
