NUML Islamabad Replaces Tea With Lassi & Sattu

National University of Modern Languages (NUML) Islamabad has decided to replace tea by local drinks like lassi and sattu at the campus in response to a request by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to curb the import bill for tea.

“The university members have finally decided that from 1st July, 2022, the tea will be replaced by local drinks such as lassi and sattu at both cafes of NUML Islamabad.” said the notification issued by the administration department.

It is pertinent to mention that HEC had suggested the vice-chancellors (VCs) of the public sector universities to promote the consumption of local drinks like lassi and sattu to tackle the ongoing economic crisis in the country.

HEC added that the suggestion was made as part of the various measures taken by the commission to encourage students and faculty to research issues that confront Pakistan and come up with innovative solutions.

“The economic situation demands that we do not take business as usual. Therefore, university leaders have been requested to focus their research inter alia on the three main imports which could reduce foreign exchange spending,” HEC said.

It added that there was need for research and commercialization of local oils and drinks so that they can be consumed off the shelf while “increasing employment and growth of the local economy.”

“The vice-chancellors have also been encouraged to think of other creative ways to explore avenues that would be contributing towards growth of the national economy,” it said,
