Facebook Groups are getting some big changes and some of them are very familiar to Discord, including a new left-aligned sidebar and channels list for Groups. The Discord-like sidebar will list your groups with rounded square icons while allowing you to pin groups so that they show up first on the list.
Individual groups will have a new menu that seems lifted right from Discord and organizes things like channels, Messenger conversations, and events one after another. Meanwhile, the channels in Facebook Groups can be text chats, audio rooms, or feed rooms where people can post and comment in a way that’s similar to what you’re already used to seeing on your feed.
Text chats look like Messenger threats, while audio rooms or channels look more like audio rooms from Discord as Facebook seems to be experimenting with audio channels, a new audio feature that will bring Discord-like voice chat option to Groups.
According to the details, Facebook has already had audio features for Groups with rooms, but unlike that feature, which is meant for one-time audio chats, audio channels are dedicated spaces where group members can speak with each other at any time like Discord.
Meta has also shared some screenshots that features a hypothetical group dedicated to gaming, which shows the Facebook Groups.
It bears mentioning that Meta has announced that it aims to bring major changes to Facebook to compete with short video-sharing app, TikTok.
