The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Thursday an alert to the federal and provincial authorities regarding the strong weather over the catchment areas of Hub Dam.
In the press release, the NDMA had said that vigorous monsoon activity was forecast over Sindh and Balochistan and a strong weather activity was expected during the next 24 to 72 hours over the catchment areas of Hub Dam, Karachi, and the Arabian Sea.
The NDMA has issued instructions to the concerned federal ministries, departments, respective provincial governments, their line departments, including press information departments (PIDs), provincial disaster management authorities (PDMAs), district disaster management authorities (DDMAs) Sindh and Balochistan to remain watchful and prepared.
Furthermore, the NDNA asked the concerned authorities and management of Hub Dam to ensure the safe discharge of water as per the standard operating procedures (SOPs) to accommodate the additional inflow of water from catchment areas.
Moreover, the NDMA also directed authorities to ensure timely evacuation of at-risk areas downstream in case of any emergency, as per evacuation plans, and inform the fishermen of Sindh and Balochistan not to venture out into the open sea during the forecast period.
