The Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman, Imran Khan, has directed the Government of Punjab to restore the Sehat Card (aka Health Card) Program in the province. According to the details, Imran Khan has directed newly elected Pervez Elahi-led Provincial Government to restore the Sehat Card alongside other social welfare programmes under the banner of Ehsaas.
It is pertinent to mention that Former Prime Minister Imran Khan launched the ‘Naya Pakistan Sehat Card’ in Punjab last year in December 2021. The Sehat Card provided Rs. 1 million per year to each family under the Health Coverage Programme and covered a number of medical procedures that would otherwise be impossible to avail by several people.
The Naya Pakistan Sehat Card, which was originally launched in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was being extended throughout the country until the coalition government ousted Imran Khan as Prime Minister and put most of the social welfare initiatives introduced under the PTI Government in the backburner.
Imran Khan had launched the Naya Pakistan Sehat Card under his vision for a social welfare state like Riyasat-e-Madina, a concept seen in European countries more than it is seen in Muslim countries. According to Imran Khan, Naya Pakistan Sehat Card was an initiative introduced to province access to health care across the country.

The announcement to restore the Sehat Card in Punjab and other welfare initiatives under Ehsaas Programme comes a day after the Supreme Court (SC) declared the ruling of Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker, Dost Mohammad Mazari, as ‘illegal’ and ordered Pervez Elahi, the joint candidate of Pakistan Muslim League – Quaid (PML-Q) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), to take up the position of the new Chief Minister Punjab.
It bears mentioning that Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Assembly, Dost Mohammad Mazari, had declared PML-N candidate, Hamza Shehbaz, as the winner of the election for CM Punjab despite getting only 179 votes against 186 votes PML-Q’s Pervez Elahi, after he rejected 10 votes cast by his party.
Furthermore, Imran Khan has asked Dr Sania Nishtar to come lead the programmes and monitor their restoration. “Sania Nishtar will soon reach Punjab and monitor the restoration of programmes in the province,” said Imran Khan.
