The 2019 zombie survivor video game, Days Gone, is getting a live-action movie adaptation. According to the details, Sony Pictures’ PlayStation Productions is currently in the process of developing a film-adaptation of the popular video game with Outlander’s Sam Heughan reportedly staring in the lead role of Deacon St. John.
The Days Gone movie script will be written by Oscar-nominated Sheldon Turner, who envisions the film as a ‘love ballad to motorcycles.’ Furthermore, the Days Gone game is just one more on the list of PlayStation titles to be getting a screen-adaptation, including The Last of Us, God of War, and Horizon Zero Dawn.
About The Game
Developed by Bend Studios, Days Gone follows Deacon, a bounty hunter and survivor in a deadly post-apocalyptic United States that was subject to a massive zombie virus outbreak. As a drifter, Deacon rides broken roads on his trusty motorcycle, and fights of the infected while searching for a reason to live in the aftermath of the pandemic.
The game was a hit for Sony’s PlayStation and sold over 9 million copies to date since its launch in 2019. Moreover, this will be the second film adaptation of a PlayStation game since Sony announced a cinematic universe earlier this year.
It is pertinent to mention that Sony is developing a Days Gone movies even though the company was unhappy with its success as a video game and refused to greenlit a sequel. The game was first launched on the PlayStation, but it was later ported to PC in 2021 and saw newfound success.
Some of the other film-adaptations in the works by Sony Pictures’ PlayStation Production include the HBO show of The Last of Us, and a Netflix series based on Horizon Zero Dawn – both of which have been extremely popular titles on the gaming console.
However, there is currently no set release date for the Days Gone movie.
