Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on Thursday suspended the transmission of ARY News and BOL News for three days for not installing time delaying mechanisms.
According to the details, both TV channels were continuing their broadcast without installing any effective time delaying mechanisms, which is a violation of the directives given by PEMRA.
Furthermore, the Chief Executive Officers (CEO) of both channels were summoned for personal hearing but they preferred submitting only written replies of the notices, which were perceived as unsatisfactory by the regulator.
Therefore, PEMRA has issued orders to cable operators and distribution networks to suspend the transmission of ARY News and BOL News for three days.
The press release added that PEMRA had directed TV channels on September 5 to implement the verdict of the apex court and PEMRA laws, while informing about the progress made on installing time-delaying mechanism to enable the authority to issue orders related to live broadcast after confirming the installation.
PEMRA has warned of strict legal action for airing any content against state institutions and called for implementation of time-delaying mechanism to avoid any punitive actions in the future.
If a channel fails to implement such measures, it will not be allowed to cover live public events.
