Twitter has announced that it is revamping its media viewer to show full screen videos that provide an immersive experience to the user. According to the details, the micro-blogging platform is switching to a TikTok-like vertical video player that can be activated by just tapping/clicking on a video in the Twitter app.
Once the video has been launched and the user is taken to the new immersive vertical video player, he or she can just scroll up and down to start browsing more engaging videos similar to TikTok and other social media platforms. However, if the user wants to exit the viewer and go back to the original Tweet. they can simply tap on the back arrow on the top left corner of the app.
According to Twitter, the new immersive vertical video player will be available in the coming days to people using Twitter in English on iOS. However, the social media company has not provided any date or timeline for the release of the new feature on Twitter for Android.
Furthermore, Twitter is also introducing an Explore Tab with their view video carousel that will allow users to easily find more videos they like alongside Tweets and Trends of their interest. Twitter users can simply go to the Explore Tab and discover some of the most popular videos being shared on the social media platform.
The video carousel is currently available to people in select countries using Twitter in English on iOS and Android.
These changes are obviously inspired by TikTok, which has had a major impact on most of the popular social media planforms with its short-form videos. Instagram and Facebook have already released reels, while YouTube introduced shorts to compete with TikTok and the growing trend for short videos.
