The Federal Government has issued an official letter regarding the restoration of departmental sports across the country overturning another decision taken during Imran Khan’s tenure as Prime Minister that asked public departments, corporations and autonomous bodies to stop funding sports teams in 30 different disciplines.
However, thousands of young athletes had been demanding Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to lift the ban on departmental sports after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and Former Prime Minister Imran Khan was ousted after a no-confidence motion in April this year.
The newly-formed coalition government under the leadership of Shehbaz Sharif as Prime Minister took notice of these demands and has announced to revoke the ban on departmental sports. The Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination has issued letters in this regard to concerned departments and regions for the revival of departmental sports.
Furthermore, the departmental sports will also receive financing to continue their sports activities. “The Prime Minister’s office has been pleased to direct that the financing to the departmental sports shall be continued,” the statement read, adding that concerned governments/departments are requested to proceed with the orders of the Prime Minister.
