Shahrukh Jatoi Acquitted in Shahzeb Murder Case

The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday acquitted Shahrukh Jatoi and his accomplices in the high profile 2012 Shahzeb murder case.

According to the details, Shahrukh Jatoi and his accomplice Siraj Ali Talpur were sentenced to death by an Anti-Terrorism Court in 2013 but later the Sindh High Court (SHC) had converted the sentence to a life imprisonment.

Meanwhile, Siraj’s younger brother, Sajjad Ali Talpur, and domestic helper, Ghulam Lashari had, had been handed life sentences.

Furthermore, a three-member bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Justice Ijaz Ahsan, heard the case and Jatoi’s lawyer, Latif Khosa, argued that his clients had been suffering in jail for the last eight years despite an agreement with Shahzeb’s family.

He added that his clients had no intentions of spreading terror.

It is pertinent to mention that 20-year-old Shahzeb Khan was shot dead on the night between December 24 and 25 in 2012 in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) by Shahrukh Jatoi, who was initially handed the death penalty by an ATC in 2013.

In 2017, the complainant had pardoned him under the Qisas and Diyat law. However, in 2018, the Supreme Court of Pakistan had took notice of the matter and subsequently his death sentence was converted to life-imprisonment by the Sindh High Court (SHC).
