Netflix has introduced ‘Profile Transfer’, a feature that will allow users to transfer to separate account, while keeping their personalized recommendations, viewing history, My List, saved games, and other settings, when they start their own memberships.
According to the details, one of the major reason behind the launch of this feature is that Netflix doesn’t want you to use a shared account if you don’t live in the same household so it is allowing users an option to create start their own membership and use the ‘Profile Transfer’ to make the move a little easier.
This feature will allow users to transfer their profile to an already existing account if they happen to move in that person, which is a type of password sharing scenario that Netflix is completely okay with. “People move. Families grow. Relationships end. But throughout these life changes, your Netflix experience should stay the same.” the company stated in their announcement.
How to Transfer a Netflix Profile to a New Account?
Users on an account can transfer an eligible profile to start a new account by following these steps:
- Using a web browser, sign into the account that has the profile you want to start a new account with.
- Visit the Account page.
- Alternatively, you can find this option in the profile selection drop-down on your homepage.
- Select the profile you want to start a new account with in the Profiles and Parental Controls section.
- Select the Transfer link in the Transfer Profile section.
- NOTE: We’ll keep a copy of the profile on the original account.
- Enter the email address and password you would like to use for the new account.
- Follow the prompts on the screen to finish setting up the account.
The ‘Profile Transfer’ feature is already available to a lot of Netflix users a head of the company’s ‘extra members’, a feature that will require users to pay for password sharing, rolls out early next year to combat the password sharing problem that has caused the company millions in revenue.
Netflix already launched an “extra members” feature in Chile, Costa Rica and Peru back in March, making subscribers pay an extra fee for additional people mooching off their accounts, while the company also introduced an ‘add a home’ feature in Argentina, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras in July.
Netflix has also launched a cheaper ad-supported tier 12 countries that will allow users to stream 720p content with 4-5 minutes of ads per hour (each ad being 15 to 30 seconds in length).
