Elon Musk has announced that Twitter will instate a ‘Content Moderation Council’ comprised of people with ‘widely diverse viewpoints’ and the key functions of this council will be to consider unblocking the accounts of people who have been permanently banned from the platform.
According to a Tweet by Tesla’s CEO, there will be no major decisions taken about content moderation or reinstating blocked accounts without the Content Moderation Council, which means that previous rumors about unblocking of accounts belonging to controversial users, including former US President Donald Trump, will not happen all of a sudden or may not happen at all.
Twitter will be forming a content moderation council with widely diverse viewpoints.

No major content decisions or account reinstatements will happen before that council convenes.
It is pertinent to mention that Elon Musk took ownership of Twitter and soon after signing the deal, he fired some of the top executives of the company, including Twitter’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Parag Agrawal, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Ned Segal, and Legal Affairs and Policy Chief Vijaya Gadde.
“The bird is freed,” Musk Tweeted soon after completing his acquisition of the company on Thursday, while referring to the company’s logo in an apparent nod to have fewer limits on the micro-blogging site. However, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX has confirmed that no changes have been made to Twitter’s content moderation policies yet.

Musk’s takeover of Twitter has drew a lot of reactions on social media with concern about the micro-blogging website’s future under the leadership of a free-speech absolutist and many users fear that Twitter will become a global stage for hate speech and misinformation.
However, the CEO of Tesla has said that he wants to prevent the platform from becoming an echo chamber for hate and division with other goals being to “defeat” spam bots on Twitter and make the algorithms that determine how content is presented to its users publicly available.
Musk is yet to reveal how he plans to achieve all these changes and who will end up running the company on a day to day basis since he let go of the leadership after taking over on Thursday.
