Meta’s instant messaging platform, WhatsApp, has started to roll out its much-anticipated feature – WhatsApp Communities – globally after thoroughly testing and improving the feature over the last couple of months. According to the details, the WhatsApp Communities will allow users to have multiple groups together under one roof and let them organize group conversations on the platform with a “level of privacy and security not found anywhere else.”
WhatsApp Communities will also provide new tools for administrators, such as announcement messages sent to everyone and control over which groups can be included. To get started, you can tap on the Communities tab on the top of your chats on Android or the bottom in the case of iOS, where you will get the option to start a new Community from scratch or add existing groups to a Community.
According to WhatsApp, the company has worked with more than 50 organizations in 15 countries to built this feature. “With Communities, we’re aiming to raise the bar for how organizations communicate with a level or privacy and security not found anywhere else.” the company said in its blog post. “The alternatives available today require trusting apps or software companies with a copy of their messages – and we think they deserve the higher level of security provided by end-to-end encryption.”
The instant messaging firm also released three other features – in-chat polls, 32 person video calling, and groups with up to 1024 members. “Just like emoji reactions, larger file sharing, and admin delete, these features can be used in any group but will be particularly helpful for Communities,” the company said.
